Under the right conditions manganese forms superb dendritic specimens that look just like fossil ferns. The manganese oxide seeps into the fissures of the limestone and freezes forming dendritic patterns much like frost on a window. This slab contains dendrites that have black color markings (manganese) on both sides, but only very slightly on the back. The rust color shown is iron oxide. It measures 3 3/4" x 2 1/2" and is about 1/4" thick.
